"Talk to me," Google

With high demand and use of smartphones, Google started to realize that not only was it difficult to type in searches on the small screen, but – because not much development has been put into it in 2008 – the pages were loading supper slow.

So, Google being the genius they are, they started to develop a new way to search called: Grand Prix.
"In six weeks, engineers revamped mobile searching and hatched plans for new ways to search on the go, by talking or taking photos instead of typing."

Come on everyone... we want you to now talk to your phones!

This will open doors to the ability to translate signs, get info about products, and other things that relate to image recognition on your phone.

“I feel like a parent the second time around feels,” said Amit Singhal, Google employee. “You saw your first child grow at an amazing pace, and here we are with our second child, mobile, growing at the same pace and showing the same signs.”

What does this mean in respect to the Google generation?
How does this or will it affect students?

Let me know your thoughts!

  1. I get the feeling that the battle between the really big internet companies is not only on but it becomes more and more difficult. Microsoft buys Skype for example - every company seems to be in the need of being able to offer everything possible! The good old telephone has long been forgotten...
To me this is just another clever way to get as many personal data from customers as possible! Talk to us, give us your information, reveal your secrets, your interests - and what you would like to have so we can sell it to you!
Although the offer for us customers is getting bigger and bigger (which is indeed nice in the beginning) I am convinced that in the end the battle for your privacy will start desperately!

  2. Oh I can't wait for this. I know I am probably supposed to be outraged but I very much enjoy every technological advancement that will make my life easier. :)

It may be making us lazier, we procrastinate more and we decline in the ability to solve problems, but haven't they always said it about every exciting invention in the history? I can imagine when they first invented typewriters grandmas were probably saying stuff like "you kids today with your typewriters, you don't even know how to write in cursive anymore, when I was your age blah blah blah" Just like with all the technology ever since. Even though technology takes its price in making lazier people, who would be less likely to survive in the woods with a hatchet in their hand, it has been helping us advance as a society. The more advanced technology we have the more knowledge of the Universe we have, and that's just the beginning of it.

So maybe we should stop blaming internet and technology for our own laziness and start actually using it to our benefit and to better ourselves.

Needless to say though, I love your blog, and the way you write. Very engaging. And the topic is something that interests me greatly.

    :)
